Underage passports
Passports may be issued from birth, upon parents’ request.
Children with less than 10 years
Children with less than 10 years may travel with their own passport provided one parent or authorized person travels with them; in the latter case the accompanying adult must have a declaration signed by both parents and issued by local Passport authorities.
Youths with less than 16 years
Passengers with less than 16 years must have their names printed on one parent’s passport, or tutor or authorized person.
Authorization can be issued only after stating exact name, family name, place and date of birth and nationality.
For youths 10 years old and after it is required you submit two photos.
Youths with less than 18 years
Passengers with less than 18 years may travel alone with the following additional documents: written approval of parents or authorized tutor, and in case the youth has a custody agreement, the person in charge of custody must authorize the youth travel in writing.
I case parents are legally separated the authorization is issued by the appointed Custody Judge.
Release of the White Paper
The White Paper is a document that allows youths with less than 15 years to travel.
Youth must possess a certificate with all relevant data and a photo validated by the local Passport Authorities.
In order to travel abroad it is also needed the approval of both parents.
From 0 to 2 years (Infant)
Infants do not have their own seat, but must travel on their parent’s lap. Infants pay a reduced fare (around 10% of the adult fare) and are entitled to carry free of charge their baggage (stroller, nappies, etc.) for a maximum of 5 kg.
From 2 years to 12 years (Child)
Children from 2 to 12 years pay a reduced fare (around 67% of the adult fare) and are entitled to a regular seat and adult baggage limits.
Underage passengers traveling alone
Between 4 and 12 years, passengers traveling alone must declare it before making the reservation.
A special procedure will then be followed: our personnel will take care of the passenger until boarding, and after that the airline company will be in charge.
The parent or tutor must be at the airport until the aircraft takes off. In order to benefit from the same services, a youth between 12 and 14 years must require it at the reservation.
Children between 4 months and 4 years of age may also travel alone, however in such cases there is the need of a dedicated stewardess to take care of the child, with an extra charge.
Special on-board meals
Airline companies have special child meals, according to different ages, to be agreed upon before reservation.
Pregnant women
In particular cases such as difficult pregnancies, twins or close to delivery pregnancies, a proper certificate must be submitted before check-in.
On-board births
In case of on-board deliveries, the head steward is in charge of operations, he or she will also locate the next available doctor.
In case no doctor is on board, the steward must inform the crew captain who may decide to operate an emergency landing at the nearest airport. In case no airport is in the vicinity, stewards are trained to perform first aid assistance on passengers, including births.
Once the aircraft has landed, the crew captain as the Civil Officer in charge on board, must register the birth as in a regular Birth Registry, then the local Italian Consulate will transmit the Birth Registration to the parents’ actual residence city administration.
The newborn will thus become a regular Italian citizen.
