SECURITY SYSTEM AND CCTV SURVEILLANCE In 2003, complying with ENAC security directives, implemented its 100% checked baggage control procedures with a two-level system using PEDS and FEP radio devices, as well as drugs and explosives portable detectors. In order to avoid unauthorized intrusions on the air-side area of the airport, besides 24-hour video surveillance, all existing doors have been alarmed, and additional monitors have been installed at the on-site State Police premises. The same procedures have been implemented at the Brindisi Airport. Moreover, in the course of 2003 a new facial biometric recognition system has been tested and implemented, so as to avoid unauthorized access to the airport premises, as decided by the Airport Security Committee. The implemented recognition system is compliant with ICAO-recommended technology for biometric identification inside airports. Said system was also applied to the already existing frequent flyers program SEAP CLUB. The opportunity of having a reserved lounge, fast lane check-in desks and passport controls thanks to a third gate is also a commercial choice, so as to attract and keep passengers by making them cared-for customers by avoiding long waits and exhausting queues, especially in early morning Monday and Friday flights. Planned investments, in accordance with ENAC and other security authorities, allowed for modern and effective equipment that made Apulian hubs efficient European airports, and International hubs as well, in terms of service performance standards and high safety and security measures. THE NEW PASSENGER TERMINAL The particular care for safety (prevention of accidental events), and security (prevention of intentional offences), is a distinctive mark of the new airport.
Its most evident testimony is the new Air Control Room, one of the most advanced in Italy, and not only from an air-transportation point of view. Security is not only a mandatory requirement for all airport operators (passengers, airlines, tour operators and personnel), but also an added value to a structure that aims at becoming an excellence point of reference among European airports: - 100 %, 5th level control of checked baggage; - Passenger and hand baggage control with mobile and portable detectors of explosive substances particles; - Digitally taped video surveillance with a dedicated control room (over 130 CCTV cameras); - Biometric access system to maximum security entries; - Electronic access control over 150 risk areas; - Alarm system on all emergency exits; - Airside area surveillance system.
